The jaapi or japi is a traditional conical hat from Assam, India which is made from tightly woven bamboo and/or cane and tokou paat (Trachycarpus martianus) a large, palm leaf. The word jaapi derives from jaap meaning a bundle of takou leaves. The most famous one is Fulam Japi, the one we use as a symbol of respect by gifting it to someone and they also can be seen in almost each and every felicitation function.
